Readers of the Daily Express have had their say following that explosive row between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of the world’s media. The US and Ukraine were set to sign a significant minerals deal but Mr Zelensky was told to leave the White House early after a fiery exchange in the Oval Office with Mr Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
European leaders rallied behind Mr Zelensky following the war of words which saw Mr Trump tell the Ukrainian President he doesn't "have the cards right now" and was “gambling with World War Three”. Now, Express readers have revealed their true feelings over the row, with the overwhelming majority siding with the Ukrainian leader. In an exclusive poll, almost 75% (12,391) said they were backing Mr Zelensky.
Nearly 22% (3,624) said they were backing Trump, while around 3% (518) said they didn’t know.
The meeting in the Oval Office lasted almost 45 minutes, with the final 10 minutes becoming a tense back and forth between Mr Trump, Mr Vance and Mr Zelensky.
Mr Vance accused the Ukrainian President of being “disrespectful”, claiming he had not been thankful enough for US military support during the war - which Mr Zelensky denied.
Following the shouting match, a Number 10 spokesperson confirmed Sir Keir Starmer had spoken to both Mr Trump and Mr Zelensky
The spokesperson added: "He [the Prime Minister] retains unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine."
Mr Zelensky has now arrived in the UK for talks with the Prime Minister in Downing Street, a day before Sir Keir hosts a summit of European leaders to discuss bringing the war between Ukraine and Russia to an end.
On Saturday, Mr Zelensky thanked the American people and leadership, and voiced hope for “strong relations”.
