Ex-Premier League manager Garry Monk has been sacked by Cambridge United with the team currently bottom of League One.
Monk, 45, spent just 11 months in charge at the Abbey Stadium after being appointed in March 2024.
Despite his vast experience in the dugout, Monk failed to have a positive effect on the team with the club now sat at the bottom.
The ex-Swansea boss guided Cambridge to 24th spot in League One losing 18 of 31 matches.
It was the team's 1-0 home defeat to Exeter yesterday (February 15), that prompted Cambridge to act.
Cambridge United majority owner Paul Barry said: "We would like to thank Garry for his hard work and commitment to Cambridge United over the last 12 months.
"He really bought into the Club during his time with us and we are all very disappointed that it has not worked out in the way we would all have hoped. In the end, the table does not lie and it is the right moment to make a change as we conclude the first part of our football review.
"There are 15 games of this season remaining, and we must continue to fight together to preserve our League One status over the coming weeks. At the same time, we will use this period to plan strategically for the next chapter of the Football Club. We will say more about this in the week."
Monk celebrated 10 years in professional management last year after first taking charge of Swansea, when they were in the Premier League.
Monk took charge of the Swans back in February 2014 on an interim basis following the sacking of Michael Laudrup. He was eventually given the job permanently but was axed in 2015.
Monk went on to manager Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday, before taking charge at Cambridge.
