Now, actresses Rita Simons and Samantha Womack have given us just that – sort of.
Taking to Instagram, Rita shared a video of them recreating their own version of an icon EastEnders scene outside a theatre, where they had spent the evening together.
‘You ain’t my sister,’ Rita said, before turning the camera to Sam, who filled in with, ‘Yes, I am!’
This was of course a reference to the iconic scene from 2001 which saw Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) finally reveal the truth that Zoe Slater was her daughter.
Sam and Rita played sisters Ronnie and Roxy from 2007 until their deaths in 2017.
EastEnders fans everywhere were crushed when Ronnie and Roxy drowned in a swimming pool together on the day of Ronnie’s wedding to Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).
The TV icons were also joined in the video by co-star Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon.
Alfie and Roxy were best friends for a long time, before their friendship turned to romance and they ended up getting married.
Unfortunately for Roxy, immediately after tying the knot, Alfie realised he still had feelings for ex-wife Kat.
Sam ended the video by wishing the BBC soap a ‘happy 40th anniversary’, and fans wasted no time in sharing the love in the comments.
‘WE MISS YOU, COME BACK. WE CAN PRETEND IT NEVER HAPPENED,’ One fan enthusiastically wrote, before adding: ‘my heart has just been healed.’
Meanwhile, another said: ‘we miss you guys, come home!’
‘This is what we needed,’ a third penned, while a fourth said: ‘this is everything to me.’
Even Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap, got in on the action, writing: ‘Love this.’
Rita is still a prominent figure in the world of soap, having joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Marie Fielding in 2024.
The character was recently involved in a dramatic car crash, after being held at knifepoint by son Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti), whose abuse was finally exposed.
‘Marie has PTSD from her past relationships where she was abused by Abe’s dad, Mick,’ Rita explained as she discussed the scenes.
‘I think she wanted to think that he was nothing like him and the conversation she has at The Hutch is where she says: “You know what? You are like your dad. You’re exactly the same.”
‘And I think for her it’s just utter heartbreak that everything she did to try and stop Abe from being exposed to Mick’s behaviour, he’s turned into him so it’s like everything she did was in vain anyway.’
Away from the soap, Rita is also turning her hand to a new project: Co-hosting a podcast with friend Nicki Gottlieb called They All Need Therapy.
They are set to be joined occasionally by Sam as the pair reunite again.
