Cyclist's death leads to road safety discussions

Road safety discussions will take place following the death of a cyclist, a parish council says.

Norfolk Police is investigating whether a vehicle failed to stop following a crash in Matlaske, near Gresham, on 1 March.

The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was found in a serious condition on Blossom Hill at 13:30 GMT. He later died at the scene.

A Matlaske Parish Council spokesperson said they would discuss road safety in the area following the death of the individual.

Reverend David Longe, Rector of the Matlaske Benefice, said: "Everyone will be affected because we see people passing through on bicycles regularly."

The cyclist was said to be travelling towards Holt.

Reverend Longe said: " We don't know a huge amount more at the moment, but we will offer any support we can."

Kevin Clark, who often cycles in the village, said the roads in the area were "busy", with "mud and the standing water" causing trouble for cars and motorcycles.

He told the BBC he wanted to "try and get a better understanding" of what happened on Saturday.

A spokesperson at Norfolk Police said: "The investigation into his death is ongoing with one line of enquiry being the possible involvement of another vehicle which did not stop at the scene."

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage or information about a "vehicle driving in the area with damaged bodywork".
