Chido Obi can't resist comment as Man Utd beat former club Arsenal in FA Youth Cup

The Red Devils knocked out the Gunners after a dramatic contest which went to extra time at the Emirates.

United had taken the lead through Tyler Fletcher, but Louie Copley equalised before half-time and then Max Dowman put Arsenal ahead.

Jaydan Kamason equalised late in the game for the visitors and Bendito Mantato was the hero for the Red Devils, scoring the extra time winner.

Obi would have been involved, but he has been called up to Ruben Amorim’s first team this weekend for the FA Cup clash with Fulham on Sunday.

However, the 17-year-old did not want to be left out entirely and got involved on social media.

Mantato posted on Instagram after netting the winner: ‘Right until the end, my team, onto the semis.’ Obi replied: ‘THANK YOU SO MUCH’, with several laughing emojis.

The Danish striker moved to England when he joined Arsenal from KB in 2022 at just 14 years old.

He did not stay in north London for long, though, and made the move to Manchester United last year, completing the deal in September 2024.

It was a big loss for the Gunners after the teenager scored an absurd amount of goals in their youth ranks.

In the 2023/24 season Obi scored 32 goals in 18 appearances for the Under-18s, including seven in one game against Norwich.

The Denmark Under-18 international has already been handed his senior debut by Manchester United, coming on twice in the Premier League as a substitute in February.

He will be in the squad again when the Red Devils host Fulham on Sunday as they scrap it out for a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

There has even been talk that he could get a first senior cap for Denmark in the near future, especially as he is eligible for both Nigeria and England, so the Danes could well be keen to secure his international future at the earliest opportunity.

Denmark manager Brian Riemer said, via Tipsbladet: ‘Can I start by saying that I really think we’re telling a fantastic story here.

‘Think about how many times we’ve sat with a Danish national team and said: “We’re short of players, when will we get some strikers?”

‘We have so many young players, some of them may be just young enough to break through, but it’s great that we have so many knocking on the door, I think that’s important to say.

‘Chido is a player who has played for our Under-18 national team, so if anything, it’s gone even stronger, so I think you have to say that in order to follow the right business procedures, we have to make sure we do it the right way.’
