Charli xcx takes home multiple awards in huge win and says 'free the nipple'

The biggest event in the British music industry's calendar kicked off on Saturday night as pop icons from across the world arrived at The BRIT Awards 2025 to watch talented stars perform and received well-deserved awards.

This evening's bash at The O2 Arena in London had comedian Jack Whitehall hosting proceedings for the fifth time, returning for the first time since 2021, while This Morning presenter Sian Welby covered the Red Carpet Live Stream with Capital Xtra broadcaster Zeze Millz.

Sam Fender, JADE, The Last Dinner Party and Teddy Swims were just some of the huge names performing on stage at the biggest celebration of music in the UK. Throughout the nights, winners included Jade Thirlwall, Sam Fender, Stormzy, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan and Myles Smith.

Sabrina Carpenter, who opened the show with a saucy performance, cut a glamorous figure as she joined the likes of Love Island star Maura Higgins and Zara McDermott on the red carpet earlier in the evening. Davina McCall looked out of this world as she wore a figure-flashing outfit.

Stormzy, who has been hitting headlines in recent weeks, grinned at the red carpet after receiving backlash over his collaboration with McDonald's. Even Jack made a few jokes about it while speaking to the rapper.

Near the end of the show, the Brits aired a video tribute of Liam Payne after his tragic death in Buenos Aires in October last year. The One Direction singer died aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony, shocking fans around the world.

The biggest winner of the night was Chari xcx, who took home Album of the Year, Song Of The Year, Artist of the Year, Dance Act and Songwriter of the Year.

Maura Higgins looks sensational both on and off the red carpet

Maura ensured all eyes were on her on Saturday night as she donned a completely sheer black dress that left little to the imagination. She paired the racy dress with a pair of black high heels and kept her accessories simple to allow her show-stopping outfit to steal the show.

For the afterparty Maura slipped into something a little more casual. Swapping the black heels for white and the racy, sheer dress for black blazer style dress with oversized shoulder pads and white lace detailing.

Her ex Pete Wicks attended the re-carpet event with Olivia Attwood as his date.

Inside the BRITs afterparty

Some of the celebrities are enjoying the Universal Music BRITs afterparty hosted at the exclusive 180 Strand.

Former X- Factor contestants Jedward, McFly singer Danny Jones, Britain's Got Talent's Calum Scott and Strictly's Oti Mabuse are just a few of the famous faces that have been spotted at the venue.

TOWIE's Pete wicks and former king of the I'm A Celebrity jungle Sam Thompson have also been spotted at the party.

Big John held a large brown box full of foil food containers, as he stood among the celebrities sitting at round tables at London’s O2 arena, before listing his lengthy Chinese takeaway order. Big John, from Romford, Essex, said: Don’t worry, Jack, we’ve got special fried rice, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour chicken balls, sweet and sour prawn balls, Sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style, shredded chilli beef, beef in black bean (sauce), salt and chilli king prawn, kung po prawn, salt and chilli chicken, barbecue spare ribs, chips, prawn crackers, curry sauce, and don’t forget mini spring rolls – Bosh!”

Whitehall asked him to distribute the takeaway boxes around the tables, and joked that US singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz has “shotgun a set of your sweet and sour prawn balls”.

"This is a mad time for me to win because of bare reasons," he said before revealing he's wearing sunglasses as he got a bruised cornea from playing sports. He went on to read a verse from the bible before ending his speech by shouting out his cousin for being there for him.

The Vossi Bop hitmaker sparked outrage from a large section of his fanbase last month when he unveiled a partnership with McDonald's. The collaboration came as a shock to some fans due to Stormzy's past support for the people of Palestine as McDonald's is currently being boycotted by those who stand with Palestinians.

Stormzy shut down false allegations he deleted Free Palestine posts from his Instagram page in order to work with McDonald's but his attempt at explaining why he had crossed a picket line many of his fans refuse to cross didn't go down too well.

Award-winning rapper Stormzy made his first public appearance at The BRIT Awards 2025 this evening in the wake of fan backlash.

BRITs host Jack Whitehall poked fun at Stormzy's latest ad campaign as he opened the star-studded show. "Ladies and gentlemen, do we have any Vossi Bopper’s in the house?" Jack said.

"In the 90s, you’d find your rappers doing drive-bys; this one you can find at the drive-thru – nominated for two Brit Awards this evening – we didn’t send him a limo tonight, we ‘deliverooed’ him here, it’s Stormzy. The grime scene’s Ronald McDonald. He’s loving it."

Myles asked: "Are we building careers or creating moments? Moments they fade but careers last forever." He started: "Whilst I have the attention of the nation, I want to ask three questions. My first is to the government, if British music is one of the most powerful exports we have, why have you treated it as an after thought for so many years? How many venues need to close and how many more music programmes need to be cut?"

After accepting his award, he returned to the stage to perform his hit song Nice To Meet You and Stargazing.

Viewers in shock as they spot 'horse' in audience
