The 2025 Brit Awards kicked off with a bang, as a slew of talented artists took to the stage to claim their well-deserved gongs.
Among the standout moments, US pop star Chappell Roan delivered an emotional video speech dedicating her BRIT Award to a late singer. Her heartfelt tribute moved the audience as she honoured the memory of someone who had deeply impacted her and the music world.
On stage, Line of Duty stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston had read out Roan's name before the camera panned to the singer who appeared via video call.
The Pink Pony Club singer who won International Artist of the Year was unable to attend in person but said: “I dedicate this to trans artists, drag queens, fashion students, sex workers and Sinéad O’Connor. They have laid the groundwork for me to be here today. I did not give up because of them.”
She proudly held up her accolade as she appeared visibly emotional while reading out her speech. She donned a sheer nude dress, wore her in an updo, and rocked glittery eye makeup.
In her heartfelt speech, the singer, 26, who drag queen-influenced aesthetic, went on to thank those who supported her journey through her imperfect art and the process of finding success on her "own terms".
Roan said: “Over the years, I have written many songs. I don’t believe in bad art, but let’s just say, I had to write a lot of bad songs to get to the good ones.
“And artists deserve that freedom to write bad songs and to explore horrible concepts, and to flop and rise and not be pressured into making music based off of what’s trending. So we must continue to support these artists so they can find success on their own terms and have long careers.
“So this is dedicated to the people who helped me protect my bad art and lifted me up all along the way.”
