Motorway reopens - drivers still face congestion

The M6 southbound has reopened, National Highways West Midlands said.

However, the organisation warns delays remain for motorists, with an expected 30 minutes to be added to travelling time.

Commuters continue facing 60 minutes delay

The M6 southbound between junction three and two still remains closed, causing a delay of up to 60 minutes.

All emergency services are working at the scene, in a response being led by Warwickshire police.

Full statement from Ambulance services

The West Midlands Ambulance Service shared a detailed statement on the collision.

It reads: "We were called at 9.29am to reports of a multi-vehicle collision between junctions 3 and 2 of the M6.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found six cars and a mobile crane had been involved in a collision.

"There were two male patients requiring assistance.

"Both men were treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries and were conveyed to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire."

Police issues a statement

Warwickshire Police issued a statement on X saying: "The M6 southbound between junctions two and three is presently blocked following a collision involving six vehicles.

"Please find an alternative route for the time being.

"The northbound section is currently unaffected."

Google maps show long delays

According to Google Traffic maps, congestion from the accident scene closure between Junctions 3 and 2 southbound on the M6 extends back to Corley Services.

The closure has now been in effect for two hours following a six-vehicle collision.

Ambulance at the scene

There are two ambulances on the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said.

In a statement to CoventryLive, a WMAS spokesperson said: "We currently have two ambulances and a paramedic officer at the scene of a multi-vehicle RTC between junctions 3 and 2 of the M6 following a call at 9.29am."

Diversion route in place

National Highways have put in place a diversion route.

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs.

The organisation said about the diversion route:Exit at J3 and take the fourth exit from the roundabout on to the A444 towards Coventry. Head south to the roundabout with the A428 Binley Road. Keep left on approach to the roundabout to take the dedicated lane to the eastbound A428 Binley Road. Follow the A428 Binley Road eastbound to the junction with the A46. At the roundabout take the first exit on to the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass. Head north on the A46 and keep left (to avoid joining the M69) to reach J2 of the M6. At the junction roundabout take the fourth exit to re-join the M6 southbound. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.

Drivers face long delays

Drivers in the Warwickshire area have been warned by National Highways they face "long delays" due to the road closure.

The organisation said before 10.30am that motorists should expect up delays of up to 60 minutes.
