A CATALOGUE of injuries on newborn twins left in the care of an unregulated maternity nurse was an “avoidable tragedy”, an MP has said.

Tory MP Robbie Moore spoke out yesterday after we revealed the shocking case of Emily Waters.

He called for mandatory background checks, standardised training and a national nanny register.

Mr Moore said: “This was an avoidable tragedy.

"Anyone can work as a nanny, without checks.

"This has to change.”

Private nurse Waters was responsible for the babies’ injuries, including a fractured skull and rib breaks, in October 2023, the Family Court ruled.

Judge Judith Rowe KC named her to protect other infants from harm.

It remains unclear if the police are investigating.

A petition from nannies Allie Bell and Maria Culley also called for change.
