Body found in five-day forest search for missing runner Jenny Hall

A body has been found in the search for a runner missing for five days, police has confirmed.

Jenny Hall, 23, was last seen leaving her home at Barracks Farm, Tow Law, Co. Durham, on Tuesday just after 3pm. Her red Ford Focus was found parked on the B6278 in remote moorland less than 10 miles away between Eggleston and Stanhope on Wednesday.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said on Facebook: "We're sorry to report that officers searching for missing woman Jenny Hall, have sadly found a body. Officers carried out an extensive search alongside specialist partners and have been working around-the-clock to locate Jenny after she went missing on February 18.

"The body was found in a very remote area in Teesdale just after 9.30am today (February 23). Formal identification has yet to take place.

"Jenny’s family have been notified and are currently being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts remain with them. It is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances."

Jenny's car, a red Ford Focus, was found on Wednesday parked on the B6278, near remote moorland between Eggleston and Stanhope.

"Specialist drones had been used in the search for Ms Hall. Durham Constabulary said on Saturday that police officers and mountain rescue teams had focused their search in Hamsterley Forest and the surrounding areas, where there are a number of running trails.

Sniffer dogs and HM Coastguard air support have also been involved in the search. Police said on Friday that searchers have faced “challenging weather conditions and terrain”.

Digital intelligence officers had checked Ms Hall’s mobile phone, smartwatch and running apps, but have found no leads.
