BBC star dies as tributes pour in for 'beloved actor' after sad announcement

BBC star Jimmy Martin has sadly died.

The Still Game actor, known for his role as Eric in the popular 1990s BBC sitcom, has sadly passed away at the age of 93 and tributes have been flooding in online for the late actor.

On Tuesday (February 18), Michael Hines, the director of the comedy show, took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share the heartbreaking news with the actor's devoted fans. He posted: "Just to let all the Still Game fans out there know that Jimmy Martin 'Eric' passed away today. He was a wonderful actor and I was honoured to call him a pal."

Fans quickly filled the comments section with their fond memories of the star and condolences for his loved ones.

One fan wrote: "Met him on a couple of occasions, absolute gentleman! " while another commented: "An integral part of an amazing show."

A third shared: "Loved Eric. How sad," and a fourth added: "Sorry to hear that. Thank you for the memories.", reports the Express.

Red Shoe Entertainment also paid tribute on Facebook, stating: "We are deeply saddened to share the news that Jimmy Martin, the beloved actor known for playing Eric in Still Game, has passed away.

"His warmth, humour, and unforgettable performances brought joy to so many, and his legacy will live on through the laughter he shared with the world. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Jimmy".

His death comes just months after the 93-year-old was awarded a top royal honour, receiving the British Empire Medal after serving time in the Royal Navy at just 17-years-old.
