BBC star Peter Grant has died after a short battle with cancer.
The broadcaster worked on several stations during his career, including BBC Radio Newcastle and Tees, Magic, Durham FM, Radio Aire, TFM and Plymouth Sound. He also appeared on TV, providing travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast and hosting shows for Made In Tyne and Wear.
Grant is the latest beloved BBC star we've lost in recent weeks. His passing follows that of BBC Radio presenter, David Arscott, and Kerry Wilson.
Peter's Radio Newcastle and Tees co-star Simon Logan confirmed news of Peter's passing on Monday (January 20). Paying tribute to Peter on Facebook, Simon wrote: "So very difficult to post that we have lost another radio legend and my great friend of 25 years.
"Peter Grant was a wonderful and talented person that was known for presenting radio and TV shows on many different platforms. RIP Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time. Thanks for the laughs and the great times Peter, everyone who knew you will miss you always."
Former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster Alfie Joey said on Facebook: "Well this is sad. An old friend of mine from radioland has died.
"Peter Grant was great company and relentlessly positive. Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives.
"What an amazing outlook to have and to learn from. Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane and family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter."
Radio Tees producer Anthony Day wrote on X: "My thoughts are with Peter and his family. I did my first ever radio car live with Peter on Boxing Day 2013 at the Seaburn dip @bbcnewcastle. I was very nervous but he put me at ease with his humour, fun and kindness. RIP."
BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees broadcaster Simon Logan said the former broadcaster was a "radio legend" and "great friend". He wrote: "R.I.P Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time."
One of Peter's listeners on BBC Newcastle wrote: "He was absolutely brilliant on BBC Newcastle. I loved his shows very much I am so very sad to read this tonight. Thinking of you and all his family and friends. Sending lots of love."
