Many celebs jump at the chance to join celebrity-themed reality shows, but few are quite as honest about their reasons for taking the offers as BAFTA-winning This Country creator Daisy May Cooper. On the So Wrong, It's Right podcast, the writer and actor openly confessed why she agreed to go on The Masked Singer: "I needed the money."
She acknowledged that the show pays its stars handsomely, quipping: "Of course it does, it's like a public execution."
Discussing the embarrassment of certain TV appearances, she recalled how cringe-worthy she found Macy Gray's on-air meltdown when she appeared on The Masked Singer.
Speaking to podcast host Olivia Attwood, Daisy said that her daughter loves The Masked Singer and that she had hoped the little one to be thrilled to see her mum on the show. However, things didn't quite pan out as expected: "She was so embarrassed," Daisy chuckled, " she was really upset with me for doing it."
Despite this, Daisy notes her children "f***ing love" having a famous mother, enjoying perks like snagging tables at Pizza Express even when it's fully booked, reports Bristol Live.
"You can get tables like Pizza Express. Even when it's fully booked. [The staff] will say 'Oh, yeah, This Country, I can find you a table...'"
Fame also brings the opportunity of meeting other stars, and Daisy has nothing but praise for This Morning's Ben Shephard, confessing her slight crush: "What a gent of a man," she said.
Opening up about her concerns when chatting to him on This Morning, worried about appearing "creepy," Daisy revealed: "He's so f***ing kind, and so sincere...He's one of those people that, if you broke down on the hard shoulder he'd stop – and get one of those pump things for your tyre."
Daisy confesses she's not exactly brilliant with practical tasks, admitting she's been pretty hopeless at all her non-acting jobs. Following a stint as a young mum in ITV's Doc Martin, she headed back to the West Country and joined forces with her junior brother (and This Country co-star Charlie) to clean offices.
"We weren't very good cleaners," she concedes, "and we did try."
According to Daisy, her attention to detail wasn't sharp enough, leaving behind evidence like "still be coffee rings on the desk" after she was done. Even with her best efforts, Daisy recounts getting angry messages from her boss who would say of office she thought she'd cleaned: "this is a pig-sty."
Daisy said that she has no idea where she would have ended up without the smash success of This Country.
