BBC Gladiators fans think new addition Hammer looks like iconic UK TV star

There was a new face amongst the Gladiators on BBC One on Saturday evening (March 1) - but many of the show's fans believe he looks somewhat familiar.

Real name, Tom Wilson, Hammer stands at 6ft 5in tall and according to his biography, is "nearly 20 stone of raw power". A champion rower, he also has a background in football and sprinting and is therefore sure to give contenders a difficult time in the arena.

But who is that familiar face? According to an iconic television star it's actually himself. Taking to X and sharing a snap of Hammer, the presenter in question simply penned: "Daddy?"

That celebrity is none other than Rylan Clark. With 1.7 million followers on the social media platform, nabt were quick to respond in agreement.

"The minute I saw him, I said he looked like your older brother," one X user joked. A second quipped: "Linda [Rylan's mother] got some explaining to do Rylan!" A third person agreed: "Need to have an awkward talk with your Mum!"

A fourth added: "My other half said he was the love child of you and Pete Wicks, so seeing you post this has proper made my night." Whilst a fifth X user said: "I thought it was you sporting new hair extensions!"

Others, meanwhile compared Hammer's appearance to a handful of other big names, including the aforementioned Pete, Gladiators legend, Wolf (Michael Van Wijk) and even Russell Brand. Hammer's arrival follows that of another last month - Cyclone, who is a 23-year-old Irish Powerlifter.

Last night's show saw fans unimpressed after they spotted a major issue after one star claimed to make 'history'. Viewers saw the contestants go head-to-head to secure their place in the semi-finals as they tackled a number of events including the infamous Hang Tough.

And it was Legend, real name is Matt Morsia, who had everyone talking. Hang Tough is one of the star's specialist events, as no contender has ever scored against him before. But things didn’t go to plan for him as contender Joe managed to beat him, which meant it was the first time he had ever lost the challenge.

It was clear that Legend didn’t take the loss well as he demanded a second go on the rings. Turning to the audience he said: "I need another go. If I get on there again I’m telling you, it won’t happen again. In fact, who would like to see me go up again right now?"

Mus decided to take on Legends' offer and went up against him in the challenge and made it to the other side in record time. Co-presenter Barney Walsh turned to Mus afterwards and said: "That is quite possibly the best Hang Tough performance I have ever seen."

One viewer wrote on X in response: "Gladiators Legend making history by doing back-to-back Rings? …I remember the master. Saracen. He regularly done back to backs." And another wrote: "LEGEND: 'That's the first time anyone's ever done back-to-back Hang Tough'. No they did it in the original series all the time."
