Arsenal 'in talks over Kimmich free signing' as Bayern withdraw offer

Arsenal are in talks over a sensational free signing of Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich, according to reports in Germany.

Eyebrows were raised earlier this week amid reports Bayern had withdrawn their latest contract offer for the versatile 30-year-old, who has won eight Bundesliga titles and one Champions League trophy during a decade with the club.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with Kimmich, who has 97 caps for Germany, but Sky Germany report it is Arsenal who have been in talks over a Bosman move at the end of the season.

Arsenal are looking for a replacement for midfield duo Jorginho and Thomas Partey, who are also out of contract at the end of the season and expected to leave.

Bayern reportedly offered Kimmich a three-year deal worth around £375,000 a week, which would have been an increase in his current reported wage of £320,000 a week.

But now the Gunners have made their intentions clear by confirming their interest in talks.

The report adds that Kimmich has informed Bayern of Arsenal's interest, along with interest from another unnamed foreign club.

Kimmich had been an ever-present for Bayern across both their Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns, before being forced off with an injury during the recent win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The German has largely played as a defensive midfielder but has also been deployed at right-back and once at centre-back this season.
