A harsh winter is ahead for the Dutton clan as a second season of 1923 arrives on Paramount +.

Fans of the hit show will be pleased to know Hollywood veterans Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren are returning to the show as Jacob and Cara, heads of the Dutton family in this Yellowstone prequel.

But they face new challenges and unfinished business at the ranch in Montana, USA, as the threat of losing it looms.

Their nephew Spencer Dutton embarks on an arduous journey home, in a race against time to try and save his family.

While the woman he loves, Alexandra, sets off on her own harrowing transatlantic journey to find him.

All this is set against the backdrop of troubling times in the US during prohibition and the start of the depression in Montana.

Season two will reveal whether the Duttons can survive these conditions.

Dame Helen reprises her role as Cara Dutton, matriarch of the family.

Speaking about her tough stance this season, she told Variety: “We have a situation in this season where the Duttons are basically dying of starvation and everyone around them, humans and wild animals, are all after the same resources.

“They are fighting nature, as well as mankind. It is just a question of survival.”

The Oscar-winning actress, 79, has earned four Baftas, five Emmys and three Golden Globe awards during the course of her 60-year acting career.

She has starred in films such as The Mosquito Coast, The Queen, Gosford Park, Hitchcock and the Fast & Furious franchises.

On television, she played the lead in Prime Suspect, earned an Emmy for her role as the monarch in Elizabeth I and starred in Catherine the Great.

Harrison Ford stars as Jacob Dutton, patriarch of the Dutton clan.

Revealing how his character is adhering to the old ways, Ford told Variety: “Jacob is still on a horse.

“He is still living that life, he’s protecting that life.

“He does not know the life that comes from electricity and from telephones in your house and all these conveniences that look like conveniences at first.”

Veteran actor Ford, 82, has starred as Han Solo in the Star Wars films and Indiana Jones in the movie franchise of the same name.

He was Oscar-nominated for his portrayal of a police detective in Witness and is well-known for his role as Rick Deckard in the science fiction films Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049.

Brandon Sklenar plays Spencer Dutton, war veteran, game hunter and nephew of Jacob and Cara who they adopt.

Sklenar has previously starred in films such as Mapplethorpe, Vice and Midway and on television in Truth Be Told.

The 34-year-old most recently appeared in the 2024 drama It Ends With Us.

Michelle Randolph is Elizabeth Strafford in 1923, fiancée of Jack Dutton (Jacob and Cara’s great-nephew).

She began her career in television movies House of the Witch and A Snow White Christmas.

The 27-year-old appeared in the film The Throwback last year and in the television series Landman, in which she played Ainsley Norris.

The 1923 second season cast also includes:

1923 has returned to our screens with a second season of the historical drama.

There are eight episodes in this second installment of the series, which began airing on Sunday 23 February.

The remaining seven episodes will be released each Sunday up to and including 13 April.

Season one of the show is also still available to watch on Paramount+.

1923 is only available to watch on the streaming service Paramount+.

Viewers will need to have a subscription to the service to watch the series, which costs from £4.99 per month. There is is a seven-day free trial available.

Sky customers with Sky Cinema can access Paramount+ at no extra cost.

Paramount+ is also available via Amazon’s Prime Video but will require a subscription as it is not one of the free services.
